ABOUT THE BOOK

The book titled “Institutional Units: Performance And Efficiency Measurement” is about the application of the Non parametric technique called Data Envelopment analysis in evaluating the performances of the individual departments of the university as an institution. The book has focused on the theoretical concepts of Efficiency, its various categories and its tool such as Data Envelopment Analysis Technique and its various forms such as CCR Model (Charnes, Cooper and Rhodes) and BCC (Banker, Charnes and Cooper) model as well as the Super efficiency model with different orientations such as input and output orientation. Using CCR, BCC model and Super efficiency model, the performances of various departments of Sikkim University, a central University has been evaluated using various educational inputs and outputs. This book will be useful as a practical guide for the researchers and academicians to use DEA (data Envelopment Analysis) techniques. The economics aspects of efficiency evaluation such as merging of department and various factors leading to comparatively low performances of some departments have been explored. Hence, this book is no doubt will be useful for academicians in economics, management, policy makers, planners and researchers.
