ABOUT THE BOOK

The Book is about the forest dwelling Scheduled Caste Community of Northern Himalayas who are in the process of social exclusion as a result of the afforestation drive conducted at the time of British rule in India. It elaborates on an overview of the Taungya Community in the context of time and space. This book discusses the sustainability issues of Taungya community in the context of vulnerability and livelihood strategies. Besides the book provides book references to the detailed coverage of all specific concepts and frameworks and is perhaps the quickest way of all to gain access to the knowledge regarding Taungya Community and their sustainability aspect. This book has a readership of academicians and researchers who are working on sustainability issues, Livelihood vulnerabilities and coping strategies in marginalized communities.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Dr. Rubina Nusrat is a faculty at Department of Social Work, Jamia Millia Islamia. She has taught at Masters level at Department of Sociology and Social work, Aligarh Muslim University and Department Of Social Work, Jamia Millia Islamia University. She has to her credit a published book titled 'Sustainability of Van Gujjars: A Transition of Muslim Pastoral Tribe in Himalayan Region.' She has authored a number of papers in peer reviewed International and national journals of repute and contributed five chapters in various edited books. She has attended and presented papers in several seminars, workshops and conferences (International and National) related to Social sector. Her area of specialisation is Social Inclusion, sustainability and Livelihood.
